Biostimulant Suppliers Form Consortium

Biostimulant suppliers from across Europe, including Arysta LifeScience, have joined forces to create a consortium to participate proactively in relevant regulatory discussions with a view to the creation of a robust European market for their products, according to a press release.

Biostimulants are demonstrated to enhance plant nutrition, improve plant health, improve soil fertility and generally create favorable growing conditions and plant resistance to stress, but do not easily fit into traditional definitions of fertilizers or crop protection products.

Biostimulants are referred to by various terms – including “plant growth enhancers”, “yield enhancers”, “plant strengtheners” and others. Fundamentally, they help improve crop efficiency and resilience. However, existing national and European regulations on agricultural inputs are ill-adapted to their defining characteristics. As a result, the market is fragmented, with registration procedures and market entry conditions varying significantly from one European Union country to another, according to the release.

“Biostimulants can play an important role in advancing agricultural technology and helping to feed the world sustainably,” said Paula Pinto, global marketing head, Arysta LifeScience in a prepared statement. “We are excited to join other agricultural leaders to ensure that this class of products is better understood and made accessible to growers in Europe and around the world.”

The founding members of the consortium are:
• AgraQuest
• Agrinos AS
• Arysta LifeScience Corporation
• Biolchim SPA
• Green Has Italia SPA
• ILSA SPA
• Isagro SPA
• Italpollina SPA
• Sicit 2000 SPA
• Tradecorp Internacional
• Valagro SPA
