India and LATAM Countries Call for MRL Standards to Improve Trade

AgriBusiness Global recently published an op-ed by Pradip Dave, President of the Pesticides Manufacturers & Formulators Association of India (PMFAI), discussing how varying standards for maximum residue limits (MRLs) impact exports.

Dave emphasized that MRLs should be based on risk-based scientific evidence, not a hazard-based approach, and serve as trading standards, not toxicological safety standards. He highlighted the Government of India’s demand for the World Trade Organization (WTO) to create guidelines for default MRLs in the absence of uniform international standards.

The op-ed expressed frustration with the European Union’s MRL standards, a sentiment echoed at the AgriBusiness Global LATAM Conference in Panama City, Panama. Find out what some LATAM business owners had to say about the EU’s MRL standards in a recent issue of AgriBusiness Global DIRECT.
