EU Defers Decision on Glyphosate – Reuters

The European Union deferred a decision on whether to extend approval of glyphosate, after a dispute between EU and U.N. agencies over whether it causes cancer, according to a Reuters report.

A meeting of the 28 member states in Brussels had been expected to endorse a European Commission to extend authorization of glyphosate for 15 years, but the meeting stopped short of a vote, according to Reuters. The discussion is set to continue at another meeting May 18-19, or possibly before.

The Commission has said it needs a decision to prevent a legal vacuum when an existing approval expires at the end of June.
