Monsanto’s DEKALB Introduces New Corn and Soybeans For 2009

Monsanto Canada Inc. will offer three new DEKALB brand soybean options and 13 new corn hybrids in 2009, including new hybrids of YieldGard VT Triple corn, reports Marketwire. The new seed line is designed specifically for the soil conditions, weather, pests, and weed pressures common in Quebec and eastern Ontario; they’ll join a group of 66 DEKALB hybrids already available in Eastern Canada. Five of the new corn hybrids will come from new genetic families.

An expanded lineup of DEKALB brand YieldGard VT Triple corn hybrids will also be offered in 2009. YieldGard VT Triple corn technology uses a patented trait-insertion technique to position the most beneficial seed technologies developed by Monsanto – including rootworm protection, corn borer protection and Roundup Ready® 2 Technology – into the seed. The company reports that the new technology has been shown to produce a significant yield advantage of 3.6 bushels per acre with YieldGard VT Triple varieties on first-year corn and 9.5 bushels per acre on corn-on-corn.

Canadian soybean growers will also be able to take advantage of three new soybean products in 2009, including an early season bean that provides good performance for early maturity. A second new DEKALB soybean is a late maturity variety to improve productivity on the back end. The final new product is a Vistive brand soybean that can help growers take advantage of the low-linolenic market. All three new soybeans include the Roundup Ready trait.
